Restoring a Crippled Hard Drive’s Capacity

I recently put a 500 GB hard drive into an old Maxtor One Touch case to use as an external hard drive. I plugged in the drive and my 500GB drive was now 128GB! After searching for answers, I found this forum about how Maxtor cases can cripple your hard drive’s capacity. There are other situations that can cripple your hard drive’s capacity as well. Older versions of Windows do not recognize large capacity hard drives and can also cripple your drive’s capacity.

So – how to get the drive’s capacity back to factory specs?

I found that answer at Atola Technology. Using the HDD Capacity Restore Tool was not intuitive, but it works well. The Tool does not run on Vista. The hard drive needs to be plugged into the motherboard on its own channel – usb external drives won’t be recognized.
